Messages to our Donators

To Jimmy of Pennsylvania:

Your seeds are doing great. We have been harvesting the radishes already and have lots of your seeds growing out in the main garden. So far, all the varieties are growing well here in Hawaii. I saw Diane today using your seeds to start new plants in the hoop house.

To Stephanie of New Jersey:

Today we harvested the first of the potatoes you sent us. First to be dug, Yukon Gold. Second, Caribe. Both did really well. The plants never did bloom, but they signaled that they were ready by turning somewhat dull looking. When we dug them up, there were a fair number of eating sized tubers to harvest. Your other two varieties look like they will be ready to dig next week. We all intend to sample some of the potatoes, but we will be saving a lot of the tubers in order to start the next crop.

To Carol of California:

The heirloom beans you sent are already being harvested. The plants grew quite large and took us by surprise. Next time we will give them more space. But regardless, they are just covered in green beans. What a great variety!

To Linda of California:

The heirloom tomato seed you sent sprouted wonderfully. In fact, we got close to 100% germination. Amazing, no? The plants are ready to be transferred out into the main garden, but we need to make their trellises first. I'm really curious what the striped and green ones will look like when they are ready for harvest. And none of us has seen a hollow tomato before, so that will be interesting too.

To Mary of Ohio:

We didn't get good germination on the purple green beans seed, but we did get some vigorous plants. They are just now producing loads of little beans and are covered in flowers. We plan to save all the seed for future plantings, rather than eat any of the beans now. This is one very nice looking plant and looks like it will be a heavy producer.

To Joan of Oklahoma:

Your peas are just now in bloom. Our plants grew a bit higher than we had expected. We hadn't trellised them, but next time we will. Looks like they are about 30" tall. We are looking forward to seeing how nice these peas will be in Hawaii. So far, so good.

To Terri of Florida:

We only recently started your okra seed. It has been too chilly here up until lately. I saw that some of the seed is starting to germinate. I'll let you know later if okra will grow in our garden here. We are hoping it does, since many of us like to use okra in stews and soups.
